Serums have become popular and there is an abundance of options out there. The question is do I need to use a Serum? If I opt for a serum is a moisturizer still necessary? Yes, and yes, here’s why.

Serums contain highly concentrated formulas infused with key ingredients to target specific skin issues like dark spots or fine lines. Because serums contain smaller molecules than moisturizers, they penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin targeting the appearance of damage.

Moisturizers with their larger molecules are designed to affect the surface layer of the skin. They keep skin hydrated, form a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss, and protect against environmental stressors.

How to apply a serum

Serum should be applied after cleansing. Some suggest toning before using a serum. I suggest applying serum after cleansing and then toning. The toner will help emulsify the serum boosting its absorption. Finishing with moisturizer locks in the key ingredients found in the serum.
